The Spa
Until 1998 not enough attention was given to the development of its surroundings; however over recent years the complete renovation of the spa has taken place together with considerable developments. Today it welcomes visitors set amongst a beautiful environment. The 24 x 17 m waveless swimming pool was opened in 2003. The elegant new health centre meeting all requirements has been completed, with again in 2003, the completion of the ninth thermal pool having a water surface area of 250m2 . This has been covered with an imposing roof and is connected to the new health centre through an enclosed heated corridor. In addition to the already existing treatments (tangentor, physiotherapy, medical massage, Finnish sauna, pedicure-manicure) the three-person traction bath, carbon dioxide bath, four-compartment galvanic treatment and the solarium are available for the guests as well as the opportunity to participate in therapeutic gymnastics sessions. The highly qualified staff at the Cserkeszőlő health centre, consisting of two medical specialists and 15 nurses carry out their work with the most up-to-date equipment and in full compliance with EU standards.
The latest open air pool is 275 m3 and has a surface area of 250 m2, a waveless medicinal pool enriched with special facilities including a pressure jet, foot massage jets and Jacuzzi.
In addition to those seeking its healing properties or just to relax, the adventure pool also attracts the younger generation to the thermal bath. At the end of the summer in 2004 the dual track Tarpo-slide (33 m per tracks) and unique in Europe was opened. This was also accompanied with sand football and sand volley ball pitches together with a foot tennis pitch. The children’s pool has undergone renovation and a 25 x 12.5m teaching pool was completed. The new men and women’s showers, WC and changing rooms are situated in the immediate vicinity. The wave pool, another changing room and a washing facility were completed by the spring of 2003.
In winter time three covered sitting pools with varying temperatures and a swimming pool ensures revitalization for the guests. The newly constructed health centre provides a home for the medical unit, where patients arrive with either a referral slip or privately.
The 4.6 hectare spa complex also houses various catering facilities with cold and hot dishes and drinks, as well as an automatic bowling alley and a mini-golf track.
By 2010 the construction of a new winter spa health centre may become reality.
The number of visitors has been growing from year to year. In previous years the spa of the village received approximately 700,000 visitors, the majority of whom were returning holiday makers. The number of selective foreign guests is also gradually increasing, primarily German, Dutch and Polish tourists arriving to enjoy cloud free relaxation in quality hotels, campsites or even in their own holiday homes.
Available services
Bath-tubs
With the bath tubs new medical treatments are available in Cserkeszőlő. The bath tubs may help the healing of many people with dermatological conditions, who due to their illness cannot enjoy the advantages of relaxation in open air pools and in addition maybe living with rheumatic or other additional problems.
The specialty of the bath is the use of the Bochnia medicinal salt, originating from Poland, which has an excellent healing effect on skin conditions when mixed in medicinal water. It promotes the healing of post-operation scars and the regeneration of the skin. It is also beneficial for psoriasis and although it may not heal the condition completely, patients can remain symptom free for long periods.
Bochnia Medicinal Salt Room
In the medicinal salt room the micro-climate of natural salt mines is available at any time. The walls, ceiling and the floor are covered by layers of salt. The most important medical factor is its effect on the mucous membrane of the respiratory tract and the smooth muscles of the bronchi. It eliminates inflammations, reduces allergic symptoms and restores the physiological parameters and the micro flora of the respiratory tracts.
Nowadays there is no need to travel to the seaside or descend underground. It is enough to visit the salt room.
It also strengthens the immune system and improves the resilience of the individual. It is effective for the treatment of asthma, bronchitis, emphysema and as a post-treatment following lung surgery, as well as for tracheitis, tonsillitis, pharyngeal polyps, frontal and maxillary sinusitis, laboured breathing, etc.
Healing is most effective with a course of treatment. This comprises 10-21 treatments, dependent on the condition. It is available for anybody without medical referral. Full recovery can be achieved as a result of the treatment.
Treatment in the salt room is not covered by the National Health Service, therefore for the time being it is only available free of charge through voluntary private health funds.
The medicinal water
HOW DO OUR MEDICINAL WATERS WORK?
Indications:
The medicinal water from Wells I and II is beneficial primarily for locomotor as well as chronic degenerative spinal and joint conditions, osteoporosis, orthopaedic surgeries and post-accident rehabilitation.
The water also has a beneficial soothing effect in the case of gynaecological diseases, for certain conditions of infertility and as inhalation for certain asthmatic cases and sinusitis.
How do our medicinal waters work?
The effect is complex: in addition to the physical qualities of water (temperature, currents, buoyancy etc.) the chemical effects of dissolved minerals is also apparent. These minerals are absorbed through the skin and at the same time the body also excretes certain materials into the water. During bathing the dissolved minerals present in the vapour above the water are also inhaled.
For certain components of the medicinal water the skin is simply an entrance gate, through which they penetrate the body, producing specific effects according to their chemical properties.
Balneotherapy, as for all medical treatments, has its indications as well as contraindications. In Hungary medicinal water is usually applied as a bath therapy for chronic degenerative locomotor disorders, in the inactive stage of chronic inflammatory diseases of the spine and joints, following accidents and post-treatment of orthopedic surgeries.
In connection with contraindications it must be noted that personally devised therapies are not appropriate. If an individual would like to utilise the baths to treat their problems or illness, it is always recommended to consult their doctor regarding the method, duration and recommended frequency of the bath.
Thermal spa treatments have multiple aims. On the one hand they can improve the reaction and regulatory ability of the body; they can correct abnormal functions and strengthen healthy operation; furthermore it is possible to find and establish a therapy that with regular application enables the patent to become capable of working. As a result of certain courses of spa treatments patients may be able to gain self-confidence and achieve social reintegration, with the treatment presenting a transition between a hospital and the home. For healthy people the annual spa physiotherapeutic treatment course plays an integral part of maintaining good health and working capacity (especially beneficial for those taking too little exercise or engaged in repetitive or unbalanced movements). It has been found that with targeted physiotherapeutic prevention (baths, swimming, gymnastics) the cost of sick leave and medical treatments for locomotor conditions can be reduced. The importance of swimming (as one of the most essential forms of exercising) is not debated by any expert throughout the world and the muscle relaxing and circulation improving effects of thermal water as well as its beneficial effects on the metabolism of joint cartilage is also clear.
